The Project Row House

Sadly last field trip, we went to go see the Project Row House. There they told us and gave us a little tour around the neighborhood and gave us the history about it. It was pretty cool how this people are exceeding from where they are at right now. The house that where there I tough that they would have furniture like a ordinary house would. But no they had unique art pieces there and history about African Americans. We went to the other side of the house and saw a wall where little kids from that neighborhood had drawn and decorated the wall it looked beautiful. They add lots of talent and they also had a staircase where they had done art on. The things that I could see was that this kids would express there feelings by doing this wonderful paintings. Across the streets form there was a park where they celebrate different type of holidays and other kind of parties. We also went to go see a lady that is a great cook. She I really enjoyed being and learning about her and the neighborhood. Right on top of there was a ballroom called "El Dorado Ballroom" there they make different kind of party but also famous people have gone there to sing. Also they have gone to dance if you have any moves you should go there and have a good time. They start the party around Friday afternoon they start to get things ready.

Houstons Art Deco

Houston is a big but small at the same time? Because to the place that we went we got to the 66 floor and saw all the place that we had gone to the past Fridays. We could see the train station were we got on, and we also could see the Aquarium from there. We got to see the Chase Bank which had walls, ceilings, and chandeliers. I really enjoyed it specially the tunnel that toke us to the other side of the bank. Houston is the meaning of architecture, every building has its unique structure. I really enjoyed Houston because I got to see it from a different point of view, and really take in what my hometown looks like. I really can't describe Houston it just amazing, you have to go yourself and see it. We got on the train to get to the Bank it was pretty cool because as you go, you can see the different things that Houston has. Houston is also diversity because it has lots of different cultures.

Ghost Tour

Who would imagine to me leaving where there it use to be a hospital? Would you like to leave there? I would because it seems that not really is going to happen. We went to go visit the Jefferson David Hospital that place now is an apartment. It was also a cemetery at a point and time, this place felt just like another original apartments. Some of the people that leave in the apartment told us that some of them experienced some activity but others say that they never had experienced anything. In the back they had a dungeon where they would burn people that had died. After that, we went to go see the Hanging Tree, there back in the old days people that knew that there family member where getting hanged, or where in jail they would wait there for news. Are professor asked us how does it feel to be here? I told him that it felt like just an ordinary tree that was there where the jail use to be. Even though the tree was old about 200 years it was pretty and big. After we left the Hanging Tree we went to go eat at the Spaghetti Warehouse where they say that in the second floor they have ghost. It felt like any other restaurant, but when we went to the restroom my friend got scared. The toilet wasn't glued right to the floor so it moved when you would flush it. Since the restroom had doors that locked she got even more scared. Then I asked her what was wrong and she showed me and she got scared again. Then after that we went to go see "Donnellan Crypt" it was weird because it was under the highway. There also they had done graffiti over the people that where there in that place.

Museum of Fine Arts

For our fifth trip in HOGS, we went and visited the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. We were able to see a lot of different diverse paintings and sculptures. Some of the paintings had a subliminal message that the artist wanted to transmit. It was really nice to go and see these paintings created by famous people, and it's also interesting to see how they have such talent and patience to make every detail perfect. We were meant to go and observe some paintings that we were told to but they were reconstructing in one part which made it impossible for us to go see them. I also liked the tunnel we went through. It changed colors from pink to purple to violet to blue, it was changing colors like it does in the rainbow. We also had the chance, me and some of my friends, to go and see the "Odyssey", which was done by Cai Guo-Quiang. It was probably the most wonderful thing I've seen. It had so much detail and it just left you astonished at how he was able to do this. Overall I really liked visiting the Museum of Fine Arts. Each painting a had a different felling to it from emotion to the ages.

The Mullet

  What comes to your mind when you hear or see graffiti? To many people, comes the idea of vandalism or gangs, but many times it is not; many times it is done in a way for people to express their feelings. For this field trip, we went and visited The Mullet, right around Almeda Mall, where we were able to observe and touch amazing graffiti paintings that caught our eyes. Something else that really called my attention, was knowing that the owner of this amazing place was born, if I'm not mistaken with Autism. Autism is a mental condition, presented in the early childhood, also with this disease you cant communicate that well and forming relationships. We were told that if not all; most of the money went to medical research groups for these types of disorders. It was touching and nice to know that the money goes for something important that will try to help these people someday. This portraits where sold for hundreds of dollars, just to help people with this kind of this order. Who would believe that art like this graffiti would help people get better in life. Like I had said, usually be believe that graffiti people are bad and looking for trouble. But its not true; this a way how people help each other but also express how they feel about life and there surroundings.

Folk Art

On this trip we visited two places, one called, "The Orange Show", and the other one called "The Car Show". Both of these places were very unique and interesting in their own way. At "The Orange Show" we were able to walk around and observe and touch the place. The founder of the place was named Jeff McKissack, whose favorite fruit was oranges and his favorite color also. For that reason most of the things that we saw that were in there were colored orange, and also named it "The Orange Show". At the "Car Show", we also got to see some paintings that hung on the walls. Most of them depicted as something having to do with children and sadness. This pictures had small kids who's face looked sad and the background of the picture showed depression type of mood. It could have relations to child abuse or maybe hunger or poverty, who knows?

The Orange Show is a place where Jeff McKissack would have different things that he would see. It was unique because everything that he had there was different and I wouldn't have expected to be there. The seats that it had where made out of metal and they aren't all the same size or color. Even though nothing matched they looked cute and adorable, they even had like a little theater where they would have or could've shows. It has 2 floors, it had entries everywhere but some of them would take you to a died end so you had to go back and look for another one.



I liked it because it had really bright and beautiful color, that it was hard to get focus in one thing. All the different things that in had form a theater, to a little museum, to a wishing well of a house.

"The Car Show" it had different and unique things, like that car that had all the objects on it. It had painting at the front of the museum, of little kids with sad faces that looked like they where abandon. This pictures made me get sad because the kids looked little around the ages of 4-6. They probably didn't have parents and they were just leaving a kids life. The Car Art Show was unique I had my questions about some things but it was interesting to. I liked the part where the car was decorated with lots of weird objects. Like metal, palates, silverware, etc...They also had some sculptures that had this exclusive look to it.
